Make
your Christmas Tree Even Greener!
Natural or artificial? Natural of course! An artificial tree seems
like a good idea because it’ll be used for several years, but
they are made from non-recyclable and non-biodegradable plastics.
When they are eventually disposed of, they create a seriously negative
impact on the environment. If you have one you’re no longer
using, donate it so as to delay its disposal for as long as possible.
Natural trees have a number of recycling options. The greenest option
is to purchase a living/ potted tree. After the holiday season it
can be planted outside where it can absorb carbon dioxide from the
environment and produce oxygen. If you get a cut tree check with
your waste collection company for recycling options, many pick them
up after the holidays. If not, some community organizations such
as the Boy Scouts might recycle your tree. Need mulch? You can turn
your tree into mulch for landscaping. You can also compost your tree
or set it somewhere in your yard to be used as a shelter for animals.
