conservation tip of the month

August 2008

Pay your Bills Online!

Reducing your paper consumption helps to save forests and in a warming climate every tree helps. Switching your bill-paying to e-checks is one easy way to reduce your paper consumption. By paying bills online you'll use fewer checks, which are, of course, made of paper. If you sign up to receive your statements by email, you will save even more trees. As a bonus, it saves money on stamps and reordering checks too! You can sign up for online bill paying through your bank or the individual websites of your utility and credit card companies. Safety is the most common concern with online bill payment. To keep your identity safe only use trusted websites with security icons and multi-layer login, keep your login information and passwords in a safe place, and keep a record of your transactions. You can keep a digital record of your payments either by saving email confirmations from the company or taking screen shots* of the confirmation page and saving them in a word processing document.

*To take a screen shot press Ctrl + Print Screen, then paste into a word processing document.
