conservation tip of the month

July 2008

Install compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL) in your home. These bulbs now come in different styles including indoor, outdoor, dimmer, and three-way bulbs. Each CFL that you install can save you $30 or more over the bulb's lifetime. Also, remember while these bulbs do last ten times longer and use 75% less energy, they do contain a small amount of mercury. Please turn them into Household Hazardous Waste Collections when the bulbs do quit working. In Calhoun County these collections are held behind the Calhoun County Building in Marshall (April 26 and June 7 of 2008) and the Toeller Building in Battle Creek (May 3 and September 20, 2008) a few times each year from 10 a.m. till noon.
