April 2010
Pollution Hotline
Between housecleaning, yard work, and those April showers, spring
can wash all kinds of things, including pollution, right down the drain. Rainwater
is the only thing that should wash
down our storm drains. Anything else—grass clippings, leaves,
motor oil, even fertilizer—is considered an ILLICIT DISCHARGE. When
illicit discharges reach our rivers and lakes, they harm the wildlife
that lives in those waters—the same waters we enjoy for swimming,
fishing, and boating. If you witness suspicious dumping into
storm drains, call our 24-hour Water Pollution Hotline at 1-800-781-5512.
