“Life
Settlement” is a new opportunity for giving to Kingman Museum.
This is how it works: A donor who owns a life insurance policy gives
it to Kingman Museum and Kingman Museum immediately sells the policy
for a lump sum of cash. To be eligible for a life settlement, a policy
must meet the following criteria:
· The insured individual must be over 65 or have a serious illness
· The life insurance policy must have a face value of at least $100,000
· The policy must have been issued over two years ago
What
are the benefits to Donors?
· People can make a donation to Kingman Museum without depleting their
cash reserves or losing income-producing assets
· Donors receive a tax deduction for the fair market value (selling
price) of the life insurance policy instead of only the cash surrender value
· People can see their donation put to use during their lifetime
· Donors no longer need to pay premiums on the policy
· A taxable asset is removed from the donors’ estate if the policy
is individually held

ENDOWMENT
FUNDS
The Battle Creek Community Foundation holds two endowment funds for Kingman
Museum. The first and oldest fund is The Kingman Museum of Natural
History Fund. If you want to support the future of Kingman Museum, contribute
to this permanent pool of assets, which generates income and grows over
time. To ensure perpetuity, donations to this endowment fund become
the principal portion, while Kingman Museum annually receives earnings
generated on the investments. Make your check payable to Battle
Creek Community Foundation and write Kingman Museum of Natural History
Fund on the memo line.
The
second fund is the Kingman Museum Collections Fund established in 2006
by Kingman Museum. This fund supports collection activity—conservation
care, salaries for curators and collection personnel, supplies and
equipment specific to the collections such as acid free products and
other inert material. If you want to support the preservation
of the unique collections of Kingman Museum, contribute to this permanent
pool of assets which generates income and grows over time. To
ensure perpetuity, donations to this fund become the principal portion. As
the need arises, Kingman Museum makes requests for the distribution
of the earnings generated on the investments. Make your check
payable to Battle Creek Community Foundation and write Kingman Museum
Collections Fund on the memo line.
Contributions
to both funds should be delivered to Battle Creek Community Foundation,
One Riverwalk Centre, 34 West Jackson Street, Battle Creek, Michigan
49017-3505, or visit its website at http://www.bccfoundation.org for
other options.
